A Prioritized Marriage was created to inspire other couples to make their marriage a priority every day, no matter their current stage or situation in life. I believe that you have to make time for your marriage and your spouse and that you can make that time daily through rituals and traditions, communication and quality time.
I know that my relationship with my spouse didn't reach perfection the moment we said 'I do'. I know that if I want a strong marriage, we have to continue to work on it every day of my life!
My goal is to encourage other couples to create a strong marriage and work on their relationship with their spouse every day as well. I hope to help you find creative ways to make time for your marriage and connect with your spouse daily, no matter what life brings your way
What does it look like to prioritize your marriage?
No matter what stage of life you are in, there will always be something or someone fighting for your attention.
Prioritizing your marriage doesn't mean: That you have to put all of your energy into your marriage, every hour of every day. That you can't have a life or spend time with friends outside your marriage. Or that there aren't other things in your life that are a priority or need to come first sometimes.
Prioritizing your marriage does mean: That you find ways to connect with your spouse on a daily basis. That you schedule time on a regular basis to spend time together, just the two of you. That you do little things to show your spouse that you're thinking about them (think love languages). That you set goals to make your marriage better. And that you take time to think about your spouse often and consider them when making big decisions.
How can I realistically make my marriage a priority?
1. Make time for your marriage – You aren't going to find time for your marriage, you have to make time for it. If you don't feel like you have any time to put into strengthening the relationship that you have with your spouse, it's time to reevaluate your priorities and the amount of time you are giving to other things in your life.
2. Find creative ways to make date night happen – I feel strongly that regular date nights can help you escape the responsibilities of adult life, continue to get to know each other better and connect like you did when you were first dating. I know that the majority of couples aren't able to go on a traditional date every week so it's my goal to provide you with creative ideas for making date night happen, no matter what your current stage in life looks like.
3. Intimacy and connection – A strong marriage relationship requires each of you to be completely vulnerable and the two of you to work to create intimacy in your marriage. Click here to read more about what intimacy really is and how you can increase that intimate connection in your marriage.
4. Clear and regular communication – Communication in marriage is so important! If you aren't able to communicate your feelings, expectations, and thoughts with each other, you'll experience frustration and disconnect. Click here for three tips to help you have more connecting conversation in your marriage.
5. Have fun together – Adult life can become some serious, especially when you're partners in parenting, your finances, managing a household, etc. It's important to remember to have fun together on a daily basis, the way you did in the beginning of your relationship. Click here for ideas to have more fun and play together in your marriage.
If you strive to make your spouse and your marriage a priority every day, your relationship will only get better with age. Your spouse will be the very best friend that you've ever had, and you will find yourself falling more and more in love with them with every year that passes. You will look back on the many adventures of life and be glad that you had your best friend by your side the entire way.
That old couple in the park who makes everyone smile because they're still holding hands and obviously still very much in love will be you one day. Deciding to put your marriage first will help you avoid that moment when you look at your spouse and realize that you don't know who they are anymore and that you're more like roommates than husband and wife.
